On Blackthorn, all forms of scripting and automation are prohibited. In its place, we have thoughtfully implemented our Doublebind system. Doublebind is intended to provide enough comfort and convenience for casual players without the need for third party programs. Doublebind will supplement existing systems such as Backupstyle and automatic style chaining.
How it Works
Doublebind allows you to bind up to two (2) inputs into a single key. You can Doublebind:
- One (1) offensive + One (1) defensive spell
- Two (2) instant cast spells (shouts, chants, etc.)
Other non-spell inputs such as commands, pet commands, etc., are not elligible for Doublebind. You are limited to 2 inputs only on a single Doublebind.
Basic Commands
Command | Description |
/doublebind set # | Doublebind the next two spells you cast |
/doublebind # | Execute a Doublebind |
/doublebind clear # | Delete a saved Doublebind |
/doublebind cancel | Cancel a pending Doublebind |
/doublebind list | Show all your saved Doublebinds |
After you create a Doublebind, it will appear in your spell window tree.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How many inputs can I put onto a single key with Doublebind?
A: Up to two.
Q: Can I use Auto Hot Key (AHK) on Blackthorn?
A: No, AHK is prohibited.
Q: Can I use a mouse or keyboard with multiple inputs mapped onto a single key/button?
A: No, mapping multiple buttons to a single button is prohibited. But you can use the hardware, regularly, if you’re not mapping multiple keys/buttons onto a single one.
Q: What happens if I am caught using AHK or scripting/automated hardware?
A: You will be banned from Blackthorn.
Q: Why are third-party scripting tools and hardware against the rules?
A: We appreciate that banning advanced forms of scripting and automation, such as Auto Hot Key (AHK) or mouses/keyboards with multiple inputs, is controversial. Our goal is to preserve the feel and gameplay experience of DAoC as it existed in classic times. The further we move away from core mechanics through automation, scripting, and custom conveniences, the further we drift from the experience that originally inspired this server. By prohibiting third party scripting, we are reaffirming our commitment to our original vision: a game where player awareness, decision-making, communication, and immersion remain at the center of Blackthorn. While some third party tools may have offered convenience, we believe returning these responsibilities to the player helps restore the authenticity and spirit of classic DAoC.
