Strafing penalty for PvE

There currently isn't a penalty for strafing in PvE.
While nice at face value, this might cause confusion when people turn up for RvR and the rules suddenly flip.
Perhaps it's better to have strafing also miss in PvE?
Yeah I agree, that was incredibly confusing at first. It leads to behavior which is a disadvantage later. Although you can just unlearn it. Or unbind strafe completly like some people suggest.
I actually didn't know (forgot) that it applied in PvE. A lot of DAoC mechanics are different between PvE and RvR, but I agree this one deserves to be consistent. Will be changed in a future patch.

fwiw I've no clue if it's supposed to. No live experience. Was that way on Uth1 but that's hardly relevant.

Mostly just thinking of consistency for newer players.
Strafing miss happens on live, I just didn't think it was important to add it so never really considered it until now, but you're right not having it could teach bad habits to newer players.
When were strafing misses added to the core game? I may be misremembering, but I don't remember that being in the game in the 2000s.
As far as I know, strafing misses were added somewhere between DAoC's beta and early classic (pre-SI) patches. It's not mentioned in any patch notes, but some forum posts from early~mid 2002 talk about it.
