Enjoying the innovative approach to a nostalgic experience

I am enjoying the experience, as the subject of my post says; however, I rarely see other players and /who rarely shows more than a few people. Is this typical?
At some point during beta, new options for /anonymous rolled out, one being /anon loc, hiding your location data, e.g. if Bob has /anon loc on and is in Camelot, /who camelot won't list Bob, and if you do /who Bob you'll only see Bob the level 27 Armsman, no location.
I believe this was erroneously turned on by default when rolled out, so a large chunk of the playerbase doesn't show up in location searches.
Also, because of i50 and launch being not too far off, population isn't too high at the moment, and there's very few people leveling. Just those in it for the love of the game or wanting to reserve a name by hitting 50 before the end of i50.

What is i50?
i50 = instant 50
There's an NPC by the main frontier border keep that can instantly level a character up to L50 RR5 to help people test endgame RvR.
While it makes it easy to try and test things, it also saps a lot of meaning from the game, so player activity is fairly low until launch in November.
