New /anon options

I’m not sure how it’ll play out long term because I haven’t seen anyone add commands to shards like this before. I get the idea of making it harder to cross realm or people just generally not wanting to appear online and all. I usually use /anon myself. But I think it would be a good thing to at least add a truncated list of who’s in the zone without identifying who those players are, kind of like how /who cuts off after 20. I agree with not publishing actual player numbers publicly, but logging on for a night and doing /who emain (or insert rvr zone here) and getting no matches and nothing popping up on /rw makes me think no one is in the frontier, even on my side. If it’s off peak hours and no one responds in /advice or /lfg, it ends up feeling like you’re in a dead world. I know the obvious answer is to just go around and see, but like I said at lower pop times it makes it feel even emptier than it is right from the get go. Again, dunno how it’ll play out once the server is live and people aren’t realm hopping their i50 toons, but right now it feels very awkward and empty without an active global chat and lower /who results. Maybe even making kill spam global in PvE zones could help for someone just logging on. TLDR, random feedback thoughts, not sure if it actually needs adjustment for live, just kinda how it felt for me tonight.
I agree completely regarding the global kill spam. Frontier kill spam should broadcast to every zone. When I don't see KS, I assume there is nothing going on and it makes the server feel completely dead. When I was leveling up my toon during the race, I wasn't seeing any KS and I just thought the frontiers were empty because of it.
I agree. I despise the new /anon. The server feels very fucking empty now, even when /who list is maxed. You can't tell where anyone on your side is. You can't tell where your own guildies are. It's awful.

You have gone TOO FAR in trying to make it so folks can't figure out how many are on. Now we can't figure out if anyone is doing anything we would want to be part of, unless folks answer inquiries in chats.

A better solution to crossrealming would be to just put in a realm-swap timer. You must wait 15-20 minutes to swap. Another 15-20 to swap again. Folks intent on actually playing the other realm rather than spying would easily wait that time. Someone wanting to 'spy' wouldn't get any useful information out of waiting 30-40 minutes total to swap and swap back. Anyone wanting to swap merely to fight another group in the field would have to evaluate whether the wait time is worth it and the opponent they want will still be there when they are able to join the other realm.

Realm swap timers should be a minimum of 1 hour, imo.

No, fuck that. I enjoy playing Hib and Mid both (still on the fence on Alb, the people seem standoffish or toxic, by turns). I don't have enough gaming time to wait an hour to swap to my other toons to check and fill my CM. A wait of 15-20 minutes is enough to weed out folks looking for quick info, without being overly burdensome to folks legitimately switching to play the other realm.
I also dislike the /anon options. I find that it makes zones look deserted and ends up being anti-group. I would at the very least want /who <zone> to tell me how many allies are in the zone. Right now it seems like 90+% of players in RVR are /anon loc, and that does not at all promote grouping or working together.

I agree. It’s a decision meant to keep out spies from other realms, but it has also become a punishment for those who are constantly in the realm. To me, this customization strayed from the essence of DAoC that we’re used to. I agree with the idea of implementing a 15–20 minute timer for swapping realms, rather than just the timer for entering the frontier.
Yo-ho!!!

I don't think the new /anon features are necessarily bad.
The people that would go /anon before can now go /anon loc.
The biggest issue is that /anon loc was apparently rolled out as on by default, which led to /who suddenly becoming useless.
Good insight, Damen. If it is indeed the new default, then I think that should be changed.
