Melee vs Casters
Went out last night a few times and found 4 other players all on Casters.
Fought two of them and it made me think...
How can melee characters compete against casters?
I was on a Reaver thinking I'd at least be able to use the Instas to interrupt and have my shield and sustain so have more luck solo...
But the Instas didn't seem to interrupt. Used them as soon as the caster animations but the Root and Mezz still went off.
Then I was killed in 3 nukes and running so slow after 2 that I knew there was no hope of getting into melee range.
On BT Charge doesn't stop CC. How can melee catch casters if they have no tools against CC other than Purge but most casters have many options for CC and Quickcast so they can use them even after being engaged.

You're a rock fighting paper. Play like filth around LoS, catch them off-guard, bring a friend or cross your fingers they're bad.
Lol I said exactly this would happen. There were a lot of stealthers so everyone rolled melee. Now there's casters again. It's almost like the game is balanced like rock paper scissors.
Did someRokk say Rokk? Did someRokk say Rokk's mortal enemy, Paper? Rokk smash Paper!
On valewalker I just jockey for position a lot or drag them to areas I can LOS. Granted it doesn’t always work out. But hybrids can usually snare. If I get counter rooted I just run the exact opposite direction as soon as they break it and pop my heal pots/heal charge. Now you have root immunity. You wait out the snare timer, resnare and engage while they can’t root and snare you.
Straight melee just loses. Nothing you can do about it unless you catch them lacking. Maybe catch a good charge window? I haven’t tried charge but I assume if you did the above and got some snare or root immunity you could create a charge kill window.

So I'm guessing Stealthers are the Scissors...Damen wrote: Thu Sep 10, 2026 6:22 pmYou're a rock fighting paper. Play like filth around LoS, catch them off-guard, bring a friend or cross your fingers they're bad.
But stealthers stealth of course... So is there anyone Melee can actually fight except for other visi melee?
1v1 matchups are often fairly brutal in classic DAoC. You'll generally do well vs sneaks, go toe to toe vs other melees but even then there's brutal matchups, and generally do poorly vs casters.roadkizzle wrote: Mon Sep 14, 2026 7:58 pmSo I'm guessing Stealthers are the Scissors...Damen wrote: Thu Sep 10, 2026 6:22 pmYou're a rock fighting paper. That said, you can catch them out, you can outplay them, you can power through by burning enough cooldowns, and the whole world opens up when you start grouping.
FWIW I've gotten solo kills vs casters on my Avalonian staff-only never-break-wizard-cosplay paladin. Don't give up just because the matchup is bad, you can always catch them lacking.
