Forums are an outdated platform that nobody wants to use anymore. Shutting down the discord is a detriment to the community aspect of the server.
Whilst playing a 2001 mmorpg, btw.Player wrote:Forums are an outdated platform that nobody wants to use anymore.
I for one welcome the classic experience.
It's so bad lol, i've just arrived, there's work everywhere on font, visuals and colours, and nobody cares lol.Sidnne wrote:Forums are an outdated platform that nobody wants to use anymore. Shutting down the discord is a detriment to the community aspect of the server.
Or we could just keep discord.
Discord is a shithole, if for no other reason than its search function.
Thank god they switched to a forum.
Just make a community discord or something, and let the rest of us enjoy forums that can be archived for future DAoC projects.

You are more than welcome to shout into the void, but let's leave the discord up for the majority of us who actually want to communicate with other people.BloonsDooms wrote: Fri Sep 11, 2026 12:54 amDiscord is a shithole, if for no other reason than its search function.

Too bad.
It has been explained a few times already. The team, in its current state, simply doesn't have the time or the mental bandwidth to deal with Discord.
Maybe you think it can simply be ignored, but channels cannot be left unmoderated for (at least) 4 reasons: for new players to feel welcome, because toxicity / excessive negativity is contagious, because the team will be expected to have some presence / reply to pings anyway, and (maybe more importantly) Discord's ToS. This would require dedicating a few team members to reading over 200 messages the worst days, and the server isn't even released yet. At the moment, no one is able or even willing to do that.
Keep in mind this is also a reflection of DAoC's community, it's disproportionately vocal and abrasive given its size (it's a competitive game after all, also you are all grumpy old men). As far as I know, not a single soul has asked to become a community manager or moderator (or the ones who did became inactive immediately after), so it would fall upon people who have better things to do (admins or developers trying to make the game actually work).
In other words, Discord ends up being a hindrance to the server's development and actually even takes away some of the fun.

Your response is great, I don't like discord either.

No, it's beta.
No, it's beta.
No. Take your passive aggressive toxicity elsewhere.
Chill out brother. I want the server to launch sooner rather than later because we are all excited (pardon the pun) to play when its more active. Nothing passive aggressive here, just looking forward to playing the server.Col wrote: Sat Sep 12, 2026 11:27 pmShutdown.Excited wrote: Sat Sep 12, 2026 9:42 amDiscord dead

I would of been happy to mediate/manage the discord, versus it's shutdown....

Discord is great for IM-like features, but terrible for ongoing discussion and archiving them. Old discussion topics are buried and hard to find with context intact. Discord is great, but using it as a forum replacement has caused the loss of so, so much niche game information on the web.
