We’re excited to introduce two new systems that work hand-in-hand together, the Resource Collection and Keep Reforging Systems, new features that allow players to reforge items inside realm-owned keeps to create stronger and more customizable gear.
Keep Reforging
Keep Reforging is the process of a depositing a template item + a list of resources at a designated keep to completely customize the stats on that item.
How It Works
Type
/craft and then select the “Reforge” tab to open the reforge UI.
1. Choose an Eligible Item
Select an eligible weapon, armor piece, or instrument from the Inventory tab. Not every item can be reforged.
2. Design Your Item
Assign the stats you want on the item. Your total stat budget cannot exceed the item's original utility, so you'll need to make meaningful tradeoffs when building your perfect piece.
3. Place the Item in the Forge
Submit the item to your realm's keep forge. This creates a forge order that now requires frontier resources before work can begin.
4–7. Gather Resources
Players must venture into enemy frontiers to collect five of each realm’s reforging resources:
- Avalon Herbs – Gathered from Albion frontier lumber nodes.
- Runic Ore – Gathered from Midgard frontier rockpiles.
- Celtic Lumber – Gathered from Hibernia frontier plant nodes.
Additionally, they must collect five of the mainland resource:
- Veil Dust — Drops from slaying monsters in the mainland. Learn more about Veil Dust here.
See Resource Collection below for more information
8. Deliver the Resources
Return to the keep and use Add Resources on the forge order to supply the required materials.
9. Begin the Reforge
Once all required resources have been delivered, any player with the appropriate crafting profession can start the reforging process.
10. Speed Up the Process
After the reforge has begun, additional frontier resources can still be delivered. Every extra resource shipment reduces the remaining forge time by 15 minutes, allowing the realm to work together to complete valuable items more quickly.
11. Claim Your Finished Item
When the timer expires, return to the Items in Forge tab and claim your completed reforged item.
Reforge Duration:
Type
/realm to see which frontier zone is “active.” You can use any keep to reforge items, but the active zone keep(s) will reforge faster: - Active Zone Keeps: 8 hour reforge duration (or 4 hours if it has a relic)
- NON-Active Zone Keeps: 16 hours reforge duration (or 8 hours if it has a relic)
After your reforge order starts, you can return and deposit additional resources to speed up the above timers by 15 min per extra resource deposited.
Benefits of Reforging an Item:
- Customized stats on any item. You can customize up to the # of stat lines as on the original item.
- Increased proc/charge power:
- Proc chance on reforged items will increase by 1%
- Charges on a reforged item will increase by +5 charges
Resource Collection
Resources are used across various Blackthorn systems. You may carry a maximum of 5 of each resource type in your inventory at any time. There are two different categories of resources; Frontier and Mainland.
Frontier Resources:
These will appear physically on the ground in the frontier zones. Resources can be looted by right-clicking them for 5 seconds (you must be out of combat and standing still). The “active” RvR zone will have more abundant resources compared to other zones. They differ by frontier:
- Alb - Avalon Herbs
- Hib - Celtic Lumber
- Mid - Runic Ore

Mainland Resources:
These are found across all three realms’ mainland zones and drops from yellow+ con mainland monsters that have not been affected by AoE damaging abilities or spells. They can also be found in chests that require a looted key. Mainland dungeons are included.
- All Realms - Veil Dust
The drop chance of mainland resources scales inversely with mob level:
- mobs level 1-10 have a 5% chance to drop it, 15% chance for nameds
- mobs level 11-20 have a 3% chance to drop it, 10% chance for nameds
- mobs level 21-30 have a 1% chance to drop it, 5% chance for nameds
- named mobs level 31-40 have a 3% chance to drop it
- named mobs level 41-50 have a 1% chance to drop it
What Can I Do With Resources?
- A reforge order will require 5 of each frontier’s resources + 5 of the mainland resources to start the reforging process.
- Veil Dust can be used to purchase Tomes which unlock the item database for a given zone.
Goals of the Resource Collection System
This system is designed to create:
- A meaningful progression path for upgrading and customizing items through keep ownership and defense
- Organic, dynamic RvR fights centered around contested resources, roaming collectors, and turn-in points
- More activity in frontier zones by designating “active” zones that will likely have more people adventuring through them
- A compelling reason to constantly form low-level mainland PvE groups to hunt for mainland resources
Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: What happens if the keep is taken while my item is actively reforging?
A: All reforging progress is reset to 0%. Any active resources are lost and added to the capturing realms forge upon capture. Your original item remains dormant in the forge and is not lost. You may remove the item from the forge at no cost once the keep is captured by your realm, or you may restart the reforging process once the resources are replenished.
Q: Are reforged items tradeable?
A: No. Reforging an item will make the item non-tradeable. However, reverting the item back to its original state will allow it to be tradeable, as long as it was originally eligible.
Q: Are resources tradeable?
A: Yes, but you can still only carry 5 per type in your inventory.
Q: Are resources able to be placed in a vault?
A: No
Q: Can I strip reforged items of their custom stats to revert the item back to its original form?
A: Yes. You can revert an item to its original state at the cost of resources by using the forge.
Q: Can I cancel an item that’s actively being reforged?
A: Yes. You may cancel your reforge at anytime and it will be returned to your inventory in it's original state. However, resources and investments are not refunded and are permanently lost.
Q: My original item was class restricted. Does my new reforged item have the same class restriction(s)?
A: Yes
